I started investing in shares in 1998 just prior to the period which ended in the "dot com" bubble in 2000. The big market corrections in 2000 and 2008 were the years where I have learnt the most and generated the most profit from my trades as well as perfecting my contrarian approach to share trading. My investing philosophy is to either buy companies which are either "under the radar", out of favour because of bad news or corporate mistakes or ones with significant news flow which will dramatically lift the valuation.
I tend to trade in stocks in the Alternative Investment Market (AIM) in the U.K. but also trade on the FTSE and NYSE/NASDAQ. My main trading vehicles are CFDs (Contracts for difference) and Spread Bets, the former giving me access to leverage and guaranteed stop losses (in some cases) and the later helping me keep my capital gains tax bill to a minimum in any given tax year.
I am based in Berkshire U.K. and I am married with 2 children.
Contrarian Investor UK invests mainly in UK FTSE and AIM listed shares. Like famous contrarians, Warren Buffett and Anthony Bolton, he likes to take a different view to the crowd of investors. He prefers the short term, possibly speculative trade, to the long term hold and takes the view that it's about "buy and research" not "buy and hold"! This blog tracks Contrarian Investor UK's thoughts on the stockmarket and his portfolio's trades. Move against the herd with the Contrarian Investor UK!
