Next Contrarian Investor UK stock review for end February?

So I've done the following AIM company reviews since the start of 2011:
  • Gulf Keystone Petreoleum (GKP) - http://contrarianinvestoruk.blogspot.com/2011/02/gulf-keystone-petroleum-interesting.html
  • Xcite Energy(XEL) -http://contrarianinvestoruk.blogspot.com/2011/01/xcite-energy-should-prove-highly.html
  • Range Resources (RRL) - http://contrarianinvestoruk.blogspot.com/2011/02/range-resources-look-to-have-good.html
  • Weatherly International (WTI) - http://contrarianinvestoruk.blogspot.com/2011/01/weatherly-international-namibian-copper.html
Only Xcite Energy and Weatherley International have made it into the portfolio so far, though Range looked interesting.

I'd like ideas for reviews on AIM stocks outside the commodity area, since the Contrarian Investor UK portfolio is way too skewed towards oil and gas. Please comment with any ideas.

  1. I've always like Ceramic Fuel Cells as they've an interesting product and are ISAable. Anglesey Mining is another good one as are Scotgold who are appealing for their Scottish mining license go ahead. 2011 could be a good year for them. The former two companies are Australian. All of these stocks are ISAable.

Back to oil and gas, San Leon are another oiler that could be in for an interesting year with lots planned. I'd be more than happy to see an update on any of these.

  2. Anglesey is on my watch list since I agree the Canadian deal on the Iron ore looks promising. But as I've said in the commentary I'm stuffing my portfolio with too many mining and oil stocks so looking for other sectors e.g. technology, drugs

  3. Hi there. Great website. Please have look at Vialgy, A NASA spin off that can predict where oil is to be found, and where not, and where the sweet spot is. Massive potential, and close to signing some contracts with major oil companies.

This is not a oil company....Just a high tech company with great Gadgets!!!
    Aim code:VIY

  4. Oh yeah, I agree with VIY. Been in the doldrums for quite sometime and I'm a holder, but this year might see some of those companies VIY has been dealing with (one major, one Fortune 500) come to light. I cannot see how this can be strung along another year without some details emerging. And it seems a great product, oil related, but more in the techhie sector.

After the recent bullrun on drug-specialist SAR - I'd be curious to see where that's headed this year too.

  5. Thanks for the ideas so far. Ceramic fuel cell, Vialogy and Sareum look to be promising candidates.

  6. I suggest it may be worth looking at a company called Proteome Sciences - it appears they are the industry leaders for providing biomarker services and have finally been making major progress with the signing up of contracts with key industry names. Due to the nature of how they account for their earnings, they belatedly report their revenues and this can be somewhat frustrating.

In 2010 they did a successful share placement at about 20p and since then they have been trading at wide ranges of up to around 42p. The share price can be volatile. However, I firmly believe, that with recent spate of contract news, and with talks of more deals in the making, this could prove to be a winner.

I would very much welcome your views on this one, if you decide to look at.

  7. VIY is the one to highlight....a company that is under the market and PI investors as most don't understand the tech.

  8. Motive Television [MTV] - involved in digital terrestrial TV broadcasting. Think overnight recording, pay per view, 3D TV etc on a budget. Sky Plus type features through the terrestrial networks for countries where Sky don't dominate. They've had a couple of of successful trials in Europe recently and have a board full of experienced people. Value should jump up quite rapidly as they sign contracts with broadcasters.

Intercede [IGP] - Hi tech secure ID software providers (entry cards, computer logins, biometrics etc) with a long list of high profile contracts (including the White House) and hopefully many more to come. More of a steady grower I think.
